Dear Friends,

This is Ray Amico and I hope this finds you well.  I am writing to give everyone a long awaited update on the condition of our friend,
Gordon "Gungi" Paterson.

As those of you that have signed into our website, "friendsofgungi.com" know, or have read in different publications, or have spread by word of mouth around the world, our friend Gungi has been battling against lymphoma cancer for some time now.  His fight has been a valiant effort, combining his own personal strength, the love of his family and friends, and his unwillingness to take this situation easily without doing everything that he possibly could to battle on.

The incredible outreach that has been generated by our website, drawing in friends both old and new who have gotten a chance to learn about this great man, or to rekindle old friendships and loves have provided some of the strongest inspirations and treatments that he could have received during this time - the guestbook entries alone are a beautiful tribute to the love that Gungi has not only received, but that he has spread all over the world - if you haven't gotten a chance to visit it, please take some time to participate in this ever-growing expression of that love - along with the multiple fundraisers, donations and charity events that people have so graciously organized to help Gungi fight this difficult battle.

Gungi's treatments for the duration have been a combination of complimentary, holistic and radical groundbreaking treatments that have shown promise and success in many different circumstances, as well as the sheer will of a great man to try every avenue available to fight this insidious situation.  Over the past two years Gungi, Bridget, Wolfie and Baron have sacrificed much as a family, have taken on great burdens, and have traveled far and wide to seek out and try all potential treatments.

It has been a while since we have updated the information that we first posted at "friendsofgungi.com" as the struggles that Gungi has gone through have been a personal trip that has seen both highs and lows - it has been Gungi's wish to take a pragmatic approach to his treatments, as well as to the distribution of information about the different doctors, care-givers and clinics that he has enlisted during this time.  Our hope has always been that the successes as well as the failures would lead to not only finding a sustainable cure but that these discoveries would be the building blocks of information that will help others in their battles against the disease, both present and future.

After going through all of the highs and lows of these processes, after all of his newfound information and help from different caregivers and doctors along the way, and after every effort has been exhausted through these treatments, Gungi has found himself in a difficult spot, and in a situation that must be faced.

The treatments over time have shown that even with a radical attack of the cancerous cells that has proven many of the suppositions about how cancer can be treated outside of the standardized processes that have been accepted by many in modern science - the fact is that the cancerous lumps in Gungi's lymph nodes have returned after several promising reductions and almost near-complete disappearances.  They have returned, and his body is reacting poorly.

Only recently has the situation developed to where Gungi's suffering has worsened - the pain that this has caused is growing and as difficult as this is to write, I am expressing what can only be honesty to you all:  the situation is turning grave.

Gungi is home, resting and has been placed under hospice care; they have been attempting to lessen his suffering and to help stabilize his condition - this has taken a dramatic toll on his energy level and has forced him to rest as much as possible and save his strength.

At this time our thoughts are not only with Gungi and his struggle but also with Bridget and the boys - how best we can aid them now in dealing with what is happening, as well as helping them with their circumstances, and their futures.

I write this to you now, hoping to stir everyone and to help galvanize our efforts in raising funds to help the family, to build a savings for the future of the boys and to lay out a general assistance plan for everyone to utilize.

Nothing would make Gungi happier than to be able to speak to everyone – emails are a great way to send a message but response time has been tough – if you write an email know that it will be read, it just might be a little bit of time before it is read and that responding to them is tougher than speaking on the phone - please understand that his present energy level is limited but he really looks forward to speaking to as many of you as he can.

We will post a follow up to this email with further requests and instructions but for the time being, please keep Gungi and his family in your prayers, please consider making any donation possible to the family via the "donations" page of our website, "friendsofgungi.com" - please post more messages in the guestbook and add any pictures that you have so all can participate.

All the love in the world to you and yours, and thank you for everything - our lives are made better by our thoughts and hopes, just as they are defined by our intentions and actions...  so please spread this to anyone that you can.

Peace and Love as always,

Raymond Amico
